Pipe clamp

Pipe clamp

:Definition

Pipe clamps or pipe retainers are defined as the best retaining mechanism for suspended/ hanging pipes both for horizontal and vertical pipes  in the vicinity to the surface. Pipe clamps are  critical to ensuring that all pipes are securely fixed, as well as to any movement or expansion of the pipe that may occur

Pipe clamps are simple connections that are commonly used in many projects for installation purposes. Pipe clamps are designed to restrain insulated and not insulated pipes and to control and restrict movement as well as for vertical adjustment in riser systems

They are one of the different types of pipe protection systems that are widely used in the plumbing of heating and cooling, sewage, rainwater, electricity and gas, etc., which directly or through a hanging bracket become bolts. In this way, the pipe is kept firmly in the area and supported throughout its implementation, and thus the pipes are securely placed in place

Position of the pipe clamp usage

These clamps are used for various industries. These clamps can be used in the installation, petrochemical and other types of water and gas pipes and so on. They are made from a variety of materials, from plastic to copper, steel, brass and chrome, and some are made with EPDM, polyurethane, and  … insulations to prevent possible damage to the pipe. There are several ways to install clamps (one screw, two screws, three screws, and …)

They simply work by enclosing the length of the pipe or cable while attaching to walls or ceilings or supports, thus they keep the cable or pipe firmly in place. Note that in some models it is useful to provide a small space for movement, whether in terms of heat, mechanics and etc. Pipe clamps are produced as pipe holding equipment in many different types, from simple single-anchor systems to very complex systems with the ability to move or withstand very heavy loads. To ensure that the pipes are installed in one piece, it is necessary to select the appropriate pipe clamp for bracing. Failure of the pipe clamp can cause significant and costly damage to the building, so it

is important to do it correctly and accuratelyPipe clamps

The main types of pipe clamps

Standard pipe clamps:

These clamps hold the pipe in place by using two screws, each one on each endings. Depending on the needs and criteria of the project, they can be used with or without insulation.

Simple pipe clamp:

Types of this pipe clamp can be mentioned as:

Split Bands, U-Bolt, Saddle Clamps. These types of clamps don’t have internal covering. So, it is better to be used in places where no additional variable such as heat temperature or sound insolation are considered.

Heavy duty pipe clamps:

These types of clamps are highly efficient, so they are used for cases where heavy loads tolerance is required.

These clamps can be installed both indoor and outdoor and provided in two models: With insulation and without insulation. They have modern specifications which lead to easier installation comparing with ordinary clamps.

Plastic pipe clamps:

Plastic pipe clamps are used in order to restrain plastic pipes and consuming Copper water pipes. They are suitable for light loads and small size pipes. They are also great for cases you need to implement a large number of connections in a short time.

What is the pipe clamp mechanism?

How exactly the pipe clamps work depends on your usage. Pipe clamps and clips are available in a variety of sizes and diameters. In most cases, the pipe clamp holds the pipe under the ceiling. They simply hold pipe in place. Since there are different types of pipe clamps, there are some differences in their function.

Standard pipe clamps:

These clamps hold the pipe in place with two screws, each on one end of the pipe. More advanced versions of standard clamps are provided with one screw for faster execution or with two screws that have additional features such as a stainless steel washer and a self- locking nut.

Saddle pipe clamp:

These clamps cover the upper half of the pipe and the other half of the pipe is placed on the ground.

Plastic pipe clamps:

Plastic clamps can work in a variety of ways. They are usually installed to the wall with screws or roll plug, and the pipe is simply inserted into the clamp with pressure and used for quick and safe implementation.

U-bolts or pipe hangers:

These clamps surround the bottom half of the pipe as a seat and statically restrain the pipe. These types of clamps can be used both in hanging form and on the ground.

Which type of pipe clamp do you choose?

When it comes to choosing the best pipe clamp, there is no general solution available for all pipe sizes. In fact, selecting the best clamp depends on the installation environment and the requirements of the project for implementation and commissioning. Usually the best choice of pipe clamp depends on a number of key questions. The most important ones are as follow:

How and where to be installed?

What diameter and how much space are required to achieve proper support during full implementation?

What factors should we take in consider when choosing a pipe clamp?

Temperature changes:

Temperature changes can cause the pipes to expand and create interference between the pipes. If proper and correct clamps won’t be used in displacement damping created in the pipes due to temperature changes, serious and irreparable damages to the building may happen. For choosing proper clamps to deal with thermal expansion, the amount of thermal expansion in the pipes must first be calculated.

Dead load:

Each of pipe clamps has the maximum load tolerating capacity, which means you need to choose the right clamp to withstand the required load. For example, a project may require heavy pipe restraint, which should use a heavy duty pipe clamps to restrain the pipes.

It can also help to increase the maximum interval between clamps to the maximum allowable interval between regulations, as these clamps can withstand more force.

Pipes size:

The diameter of the pipes also affects the selection of required type of pipe clamp, because each pipe clamp is designed for only one minimum and maximum pipe diameter. For example, single-screw clamps often have a more limited range, because in implementation, they must be opened on one side to be installed, and are suitable for smaller pipes. Larger pipes often require two-screw clamps, simple clamps, or heavy-load clamps

Environmental condition:

The environment in which your pipe clamp is installed can affect the type of clamp you use. For example, if the installation is external and the pipe clamp is exposed to air, may be special pipe clamp with a resistant covering against corrosion is needed. For this purpose, many of our standard pipe connections are available for outdoor use with special resistant covering against corrosion.

Special Conditions:

For example, in some construction projects there are certain conditions such as sound insulation or quick installation. In these cases, specialized clamps can be used. For example, if you need to install pipes quickly, one screw clamp that does not require any tools is more suitable than a double screw clamp. For sound insulation, pipe clamps with a rubber covering can be used.

Additional description on pipe clamps insulation:

As mentioned, in some cases insulated pipe clamps is needed. This need can be caused by the pipes with specific material or the temperature of the pipes. Covered clamps provide sound insulation properties too.

Pipe clamps with EPDM rubber insulation is suitable for steel pipes. Some internal seams in the pipe clamp covering, grab the pipe to prevent its movement. In case of necessity, the pipe displacement can be provided by connections such as expansion joints.

Other types of pipe clamps:

Other types of pipe clamps are: sprinkle pipe hanger, clevis pipe hanger, heavy duty U-based pipe clamp with rubber cover, multi-purpose pipe clamps, sewage pipe clamps, single-base heavy-duty pipe clamps, round bend U-bolt pipe clamp, electrical pipe clamps, electrical cable clamp and so on.
