Galvanized steel profile

Steel is one of the most important of constructional materials. The significant specification of steel that made it superior to other constructional materials is its high tension, ductility and uniformity of its resistance against compression and stretching. In this article, we intend to introduce you galvanized steel profiles

Galvanized steel profile

According to material, cross section and specific weight; the profiles produced in industry are as follows

  • Light weighted profiles that include aluminum and its alloys
  • Semi-heavy profiles that include sections made of carbon steel
  • Heavy profiles produced by hot rolling and include sections with higher specific gravity

Production of semi-heavy profiles using cold-forming has many advantages over hot-rolling. In cold- forming the dimension of the produced parts are much more accurate than hot- rolling and there is an intangible difference between the designed and the manufactured part. And due to its production at ambient temperature, there is no need for smelting furnace and heating systems. It is also possible to produce smaller dimensions and less thickness parts

Press machine

One of the most common cold-forming processes is using press machine

Press machines are divided into four categories: manual, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic

Mold is one of the most important components of a press machine that performs forming such as bending, cutting and determines our final product

Press machines are devices that can be used in cutting, bending and shaping operations

The following is a discussion of steel profile coating

Galvanization

The production of galvanized steel profiles or galvanizing is a chemical, electrical or mechanical process in which zinc-based protective coating is added to steel or iron in order to prevent rusting of steel or iron. The most common method of producing galvanized steel profiles and galvanizing is the production of galvanized steel profiles with Hot Dip Galvanization method, in which the parts in the bath are immersed in the molten zinc

Protection function

Galvanization protects the iron or steel from by the following methods

As long as the Zinc coating is intact and healthy, it prevents steel or iron corrosion

For better results, the use of zinc chromate is also recommended as an industrial process

Even if the base metal is exposed to corrosion, the protective function can continue until all the zinc in that area is removed

Common galvanizing methods

Production galvanized steel profiles by Hot-Dip Galvanization

It creates a thick and resistant layer of zinc alloy on the outer surface of iron or steel. Electro galvanizing is used to galvanize car bodies, in which other decorative coatings such as paint are added to the galvanized coating that provides thinner galvanizing modes. Generally in the production of galvanized steel profiles by Hot-Dip Galvanization method, the resistance of the metal on which the galvanization operation is going to be performed, isn’t reduced. Except for the high-strength steels (>1100 MPa),  where the hydrogen deficiency can cause problems

This weakness is noteworthy in the production of wire-rope and other pre-stress products. Galvanized steel profile production by Hot-Dip Galvanization method is used in manufacturing of products that are constantly exposed to corrosive substances such as acids, including acid rain in open spaces

In production - For producing Hot-dip galvanized steel profile, using hot method, stainless steel is considered. On the other hand, the plating method is often used to implement on outdoor steel parts because it is cheaper than other methods. The size of crystals are considered in galvanized covering is a significant aesthetic feature.By changing the amount of added particles, which can form heterogeneous compounds, and also by changing the cooling process in the hot steel galvanized steel profile production process, it is possible to move from a likely uniform (crystalline) surface to a surface with grains with a diameter up to a few centimetres

Production of hot galvanized steel profiles or sherardizing

It provides a Zinc coating on Iron or Copper. The Zinc parts and powder are placed in a rotating cylindrical tank with a closed head. By increasing the temperature of the tank to about 300 degrees Celsius, Zinc metal and Iron parts that are placed in the cylinder are combined and an alloy of the same metal and Zinc is formed on the surface of the desired part

In this method, for the final preparation of the product surface in order to make it smooth and slick, the shot blast method is used. This process is also known as "dry galvanization" because no liquid is used to do the job. This can prevent potential problems caused by a lack of hydrogen, as mentioned earlier

Electro Plating

It is an economical, versatile and effective method to apply a protective coating to small pieces of steel. This method is widely used for manufacturing and producing galvanized steel profiles for connections, especially those with threads in their bodies. However, galvanized coatings in connection parts which are coated by electro plating method, must have good coordination in corrosion resistance; with galvanized coating in the main structural parts coated by Hot-Dip Galvanization method, in order to prevent metal corrosion. Generally, there is a high economic limit for Zinc coating that can be used by plating and is not generally used for outdoor use without additional coatings

Other methods of producing galvanized steel profiles can be noted as the follow methods

CONTINUOUS GALVANIZING PROCESSES

THERMAL SPRAY

MECHANICAL PLATING

ZINC RICH PAINTS

LINKRAN Galvanized Steel Profile

LINKRAN galvanized steel profiles are produced in two models, C and G profiles, for light, medium and heavy loads. For all the produced profiles, various connections with different uses have been designed and produced

It is noteworthy to mention that it is possible to produce galvanized steel profiles as single, double, perforated, without perforations and so on

The carbon steel with galvanized coating is used in production of galvanized steel profiles and LINKRAN brackets

Galvanization in Hot-Dip galvanization method, is in accordance with ASTM A 123 standard and galvanization in electro galvanized method is in accordance with ASTM B 633 SC3 standard. LINKRAN galvanized steel profile design is in such a way that installing the connections is easily possible

Uses of galvanized profiles

Galvanized steel profiles are used in installation supports to control ducts, cable trays, various types of pipes, as well as to control certain special parts in constructional structures

In addition, due to the galvanized coating of this profile, it can be used in outdoor and in areas with high humidity

Due to the proper appearance of all types of galvanized steel profiles and plastic caps designed for the end of the profiles, the use of these profiles in open spaces such as parking that are exposed to the public is common
